Want-to-Know-How-Your-blog-Will-Change-the-World?What is your worst case scenario?

Mine? I’m a feeble and bitter old man, imprisoned in a tired home for the aged. My family is gone, my dog is dead, and I have no friends.

It’s something I think about all the time – the old, lone wolf, alone and forgotten.

The Reality

I hate to break it to you, but chances are memories of you will not live on after you’ve expired. This is outside of your immediate family, of course. Major bummer, right?

Many would say, “who cares, I’ll be dead anyway.” (I used to be in that camp).

And of course there’s the “it all means nothing” crowd (um, that was me too).

Others might chime in with, “you need to contribute to humanity in some way. Make the world a better place.” (I like that).

So, how do you make the world a better place?

I think each of us fears being alone and forgotten.

We want to be remembered.

The Fix

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re expressing yourself in some form in this online world – through writing, podcasting, art, or video.

So let me ask you this:
When you start to record or write how do you feel? How is your momentum? Is there a plodding indifference or are you stoked?

Do you think you’re speaking to no one or are you focused on affecting someone, somewhere? Truly helping a business or organization? Inspiring a lone soul to bust a move?

If there’s a plodding indifference it might be time to re-tool or plan your exit. Or, maybe, just maybe you need an attitude adjustment.

Yep.

When you record or write how much of yourself is contained in that composition? Is there a spark of emotion? Are you trying to connect?

I’m not saying you have to do this every time, but it sure helps.

Why?

Because THIS is how you can make a difference in your own little way.

When you craft your next post, conjure up someone experiencing a situation they want out of. A business owner in need of your expertise. Or a lone soul who just needs a daily dose of motivation.

Make your language a mix of honesty, expertise, and passion, then own it.

Why is this so great?

1. You will make a difference, trust me.
2. It will make you feel better, about yourself and others.
3. If you’re in business it will improve your bottom line.
4. Your creative capacity expands and you’ll become a seasoned pro at delivering the goods because: (A) You practice every day and; (B) You love it, so you keep at it.
5. Somebody on the other end will be better off.

All good, right?

I think you know how I feel about storytelling. I’m all about story and the more I infuse a bit of heart and soul into the work the less I fear being the crusty, lonely old curmudgeon in the nursing home.
